Place: Milan | Italy
Client: Beni Stabili Gestioni SGR
Period: 2013 – 2015
Project: The “Cascina Merlata” project repurposes an area of ca. 540,000 sqm located in the northwest quadrant of Milan, in a strategic area from an infrastructural standpoint: it is linked to the A4 Turin-Venice highway, the A8 Milan-Malpensa route and the West Beltway, through a new roadway connection.
The lot is close to the fairgrounds at Fiera Rho-Pero and the site of Expo 2015, to which it is connected by a bike and pedestrian footbridge. The new neighborhood was designed with the most advanced principles of environmental sustainability in mind, and includes a functional mix characterized by residential (subsidized and free market), commercial and services. During Expo 2015 the area housed the Expo Village, which was then converted to Social Housing and services.
